Counterfactual: NDP Leader Jack Layton says the Taliban cannot be defeated by international troops and there's no point continuing to fight an unwinnable war in Afghanistan.
Disconfirmed: More than six years since the Taliban were ousted from power in Afghanistan, the militant movement is being "contained," with some 70 percent of violence last year occurring in just 10 percent of the country, NATO said.
Counterfactual: It's "a war-fighting counterinsurgency role, which shows no sign of reaching a conclusion."
Disconfirmed: "If you're there, you're going to be in the middle of a firefight some way or another."
And then he begins to make perfect sense.
