Er, em, you know. Em, change.

Still. Am I right or what?

Odd that it is all so embued with the imagery and tone and language and feel of liberal idealism, but when you you bore into it the primary ore appears to be an appeal to national unity and old-fashioned patriotism. Fair enough, mind. The Yanks could do worse.

Change what?

I find Obama to be pretty vague about 'change' but very good at raising expectations about a noun to a fever pitch. He is therefore likely to greatly disappoint.

I know, I know.

"It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed the trails towards freedom."

What was whispered?

"Hey, this Underground Railroad leads out of the United States, straight into Canada."

Not "on message," exactly, but still. Great, great ad.

Yes, a terrific ad. I try really hard to be cynical, and usually there's good reason for it, but Obama is doing a nice job of making it feel like an effort.

Even though I think McCain might pick up enough independent voters in November to win....

I have no idea whether Obama "can change" anything or will be given the opportunity but I must admit he's the first candidate since Bobby who actually speaks to my heart instead of over my head. I call that substance, or at least, substantial.

I also think McCain would slaughter Clinton in the election, but with Obama as candidate the Dems could take it.

And I sure don't like the "substance" of the Republicans who want to usurp Jefferson's crowning achievement: A secular republic.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Good point.
