Field Report from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Through Surfing
Our beloved fellaheen Grant Shilling, a follower of the Holy Prophet Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz (grandpappy of Israeli surfing) can now report that he safely delivered to our Gazan brothers the wetsuits provided by Ralph Tieleman through a successful operation undertaken by Grant's Boards Not Bombs campaign.
Grant will provide a full report with a slideshow on Friday night (March 20) in Tofino, at the Clayoquot Community Theatre, 7 p.m. (Only $5 admission! Door prizes!).
The operation has contributed substantially to Grant's work-in-progress, Surfing With The Devil: In Search of Waves and Peace in the Middle East. Grant's report of his recent guerilla operation in Cuba, Fidel Don't Surf, is here. Grant's page is here, and Grant is of course the author of The Cedar Surf: An Informal History of Surfing in British Columbia, which is one of the titles in my Transmontanus series at New Star Books.
One World, Two States, Many Waves, One Voice.
And here we have a field report from Oliver Percovich in Kabul on the latest revolutionary gains accomplished by our comrades with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Skateistan:

I hope his book in progress is better than Mark LeVine's Heavy Metal Islam. If he suggests that all the problems in the Middle East can be solved by Jews and Arabs catching some waves together, give him a good smack.
Actually, that would work. But he's saying rather more than that. And you would not want to smack him.
He's not known as the Jewish Charles Atlas for nothing.
That image is such a rethink of what Gaza is in the mind's eye. And yes, building social capital between Israelis and Palestinians through doing fun things together will end the conflict
"building social capital between Israelis and Palestinians through doing fun things together will end the conflict"
Don't be a prick. I fucking despise idealists who espouse horseshit like that.
Well said, Will. And brilliant post, Terry.
Actually, "building social capital between Israelis and Palestinians through doing fun things together" would go a great distance to ending the conflict, and will likely be a necessary condition for anything approaching a resolution, but will certainly be a condition of amicable relationships between the peoples.
Not that this is necessarily Grant's point, and isn't a point I was making anyway.
Don't be a prick, Will.
I can see Will skipped conflict resolution classes at college.
I'm not much inclined to swallow fluff over substance but as someone who constantly finds himself on the edge of communities in conflict I'm very taken with Grant's project and wish him well.
Sometimes it really is the small things that create the first cracks but an angry prick is merely an angry prick no matter what side he's on.

I see the Canadian border services is denying George Galloway entry to Canada. I know the man's a buffoon (I attended a Respect party byelection rally in London a couple years ago to get a measure of the man, attended by a handful of voters from the borough, and sympathized with an elderly Irish neighbour who stood up and called him a scoundrel), but I disagree with this ban. I'd rather see him come here, well within rotten tomato throwing range.
