The same, but different
Pollster Darrell Bricker says that while 50 per cent of Canadians are now saying Stephen Harper would make the best prime minister (wait a minute, he already is the prime minister), "it's not like it's Obama-mania." I should think not. But then, straight away, a new Gallup poll shows that for the first, time, Barack Obama has hit the 50 per cent approval mark. Which sort of is like Obama-mania, right?
Next we'll be seeing this headline on the cover of Macleans: Is Harper White Enough?
Or not.
Wake me when it's over.

I think I am going to hide in one of these Dead Sea caves till November (at least) is over.
Yes, Snoopy, let's them them think we'll all be sleeping while we're really quietly carrying out our cunning plans. . .
Speaking of secret plans: Odd how Harper's secret plan to "Americanize" Canada has gone so badly.
Who, exactly, likes Stephen Harper so much?
Keeping in mind that in the 1990 election in my riding, the Marijuana Party actually got more votes than the Tories.
"Who, exactly, likes Stephen Harper so much?"
No so much, but they're the people who don't like Dion, Duceppe or Layton so much. Unatisfactory answer, I know, but I suspect there's not much more to be said. Sort of like, "So, Mr. James, why do you rob banks?" To which Jesse replies: "Because that's where the money is."
I see Layton polls higher than Dion, too. And i expect the best explanation for that would be similarly unsatisfying, somehow.
"Odd how Harper's secret plan to "Americanize" Canada has gone so badly."
Ah yes, the infamous "hidden agenda".
Please explain how Harper is or in any way has "americanized" Canada?
Alberta Girl:
That was humour. You may have missed it because it was ironic, as in: The Canadian with the Obama-like approval ratings is a conservative; Obama is a liberal.
Harper is routinely accused of having overseen the Americanization of Canada, but by these poll numbers, Canada and the US are actually heading in opposite directions.
Thus, we make a joke. Baddabing, tish.
Got it?
Back in the '80;s when I visited England, I could not find one person that liked Thatcher, yet they kept voting her back, which said more about the opposition really.
Remember that Harper " will have soldiers in the streets" scare, by the Libs back in the last election.
