Long Live Kosovo.
"From today onwards, Kosovo is proud, independent and free.”
"Not a single citizen of the new independent Kosovo will feel discriminated against or set aside." - Hashim Thaci.
Better see to it, too.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Kosovo's unilateral independence would set a dangerous precedent for "frozen conflicts" across the former Soviet Union.
I certainly hope it does.
Long Live Buryatia.

Everyone jumped on board when East Timor declared independence. The exact same situation.
But for Kosovo? Left and Right - no one is taking their side. What do people have against this country?
Robert: Your post on Kosovo was first rate, top of the line analysis. I see you also followed my lead by running the Amazon waterboarding technique on Felton's ouvre, and did it better than me. And you scooped the press with the Chomsky thing.
But I also see you think you're a Conservative. You're not.
T.
Thx for the compliments. Just for the record I did the Amazon thing on the 14th .. just saying ...
As for the Tory thing? It's a much more diverse party than people think. Quite a few Greens and Libertarians - you'd be surprised.
Still you're no conservative.
Cheers,

Kosovo is going to be ugly. There is no doubt the Serb majority areas along the border will declare sovereignty from the Kosovers & re-join Greater Serbia.
Kosovo can't morally stop them - same logic as they used to get out of Serbia, but Kosovo will use force to try and they will get their Euro Peacekeeper allies to intervene with military forces.
The Russians may use this is their first opportunity to get re-engaged again in European affairs, just for the hell of it.
A good piece on unintended consequences by Anne Applebaum in the Washington Post:

Hi Mark:
Applebaum is excellent and her analysis only confirms my hopes: Long Live Kosovo, Long Live Abkhazia, Long live South Ossetia. And Georgia on my mind, too.
Fred: Nasty bunch of bastards you linked to there.
